At Priority Candidates, we focus on college students and recent graduates who are looking to change careers.
With college students, we’re looking at those who are just starting out, those who are in the middle of their college career, or those who are just finishing up. There are two groups of college students that typically come to us. There are those who say, “I just don’t know what I want to do.” They’re the ones who might say, “I don’t know what my college major is going to be, and I don’t know what my career direction is going to be.” They just don’t know. Then there’s the group of students who come to us who are fairly sure. They’ll say, “I’m pretty sure I know what I want to do after college, but I just want validation.”
It can be really scary to be in either one of those groups. If you don’t know what you want to do, you might feel overwhelmed or confused, and if you are fairly certain you might change your mind. You might see all the other options that are available to you and think maybe there’s another path for me.
With recent graduates, there are also two groups. There are those who are considering graduate school who might either be thinking, “I am pretty certain I know what graduate school program I want to do, but I want validation before I commit to it.” There are also those who have a couple different ideas of graduate school programs they might want to do, and they need to figure out what’s better, what makes more sense. Is it an MBA? Is it law school?
There are also the recent graduates who started in a career or their first job, and said, “This is not for me. It’s not working out.” They want to do a career pivot and they don’t know what to do or what direction to take.
With college students and recent graduates, it’s a big decision to change or shift gears without solid facts and data to work from. There are 800+ careers out there. Eight hundred! That’s an overwhelming number, and I do this for a living. Fifty three percent of college grads in fact are doing jobs that don’t even require their degree.
It’s really important to strategically think out your major and be purposeful.
We all want to know what the right kind of job is for us. If you’re feeling any uncertainty at this point, considering a career assessment program will make sense.
If you are a college student, new or recent graduate seeking career direction, or if you want to hire a career coach, don’t settle for anyone less than the best! The career coaches at Priority Candidates, rooted in New York City, but serving clients throughout the United States, have earned the reputation for being the best career coaches nationwide.
